Use Your Voice 2016 Tour

The Use Your Voice 2016 Tour is landing in Happy Valley on Wednesday, March 16, in the Eisenhower Auditorium. Singer-songwriters Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins and Anaïs Mitchell bring an evening that celebrates songwriting and performance, and doubles as a voter engagement drive in conjunction with the League of Women Voters. It’s a nonpartisan effort to inform music fans about voter registration, local candidates, polling places and more.

Patty Griffin, recipient of a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album, is an astonishing vocalist. The American Music Association’s 2007 Artist of the Year is also a gifted songwriter, creating songs for artists as diverse as the Dixie Chicks and Bette Midler as well as most of the material on her own impressive catalog of recordings.

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Sara Watkins, who first garnered praise for her work as a founding member of the Grammy-winning contemporary folk band Nickel Creek, has established an extraordinary solo career with acclaimed studio albums plus collaborations with John Mayer, The Decemberists, and others. She’s also a frequent guest on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion. Mitchell’s musical style and sound have earned comparison to Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Gillian Welch.

Winner of the Kerrville Festival’s New Folk Award and nominee for the Folk Alliance’s Best Contemporary Artist Award, Anaïs Mitchell is known as a distinctive young voice in the resurging American folk movement. Critics laud her most recent album as “genre-defining” and her “second consecutive masterpiece.”
