SpikesFest will get fans geared up for baseball season

UNIVERSITY PARK – Looking for a family-friendly event to take the kids to this weekend?

Well, you’re in luck.

The State College Spikes will once again play host to SpikesFest. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 4 at the Penn State Indoor Multi-Sport Facility, which is located adjacent to the Bryce Jordan Center.

What is SpikesFest? Well, it’s a giant indoor baseball carnival designed to simulate the experience of fun ballpark activities during the cold winter months. The event features inflatable games, kids’ activities, video games, mascot appearances, music, door prizes and ticket specials.

Some of the more popular events are the batting and pitching cages, where kids of all ages are invited to hone their batting and pitching skills. If baseball isn’t your thing, don’t worry – soccer and football activities will take place as well.

For the younger kids, there will be a chance for photos with Ike the Spike, the BB&T Nookie Monster, Lucky the Lion and of course, Bob the Baseball Dog!

The best part of SpikesFest? Both admission and parking are free. Those attending are asked to park in Lot 44, which is located between the Bryce Jordan Center, the Indoor Multi-Sport Facility, Beaver Stadium and Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Another highlight at SpikesFest is a charity auction to benefit the Mount Nittany Health Foundation. There will be unique autographed items on the auction block. Some of the items feature autographs from former Pittsburgh Pirate Andrew McCutchen, home run king Hank Aaron, three-time Stanley Cup Champion Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Steelers superstar wide receiver Antonio Brown and former Penn State tight end Jesse James, just to name a few.

Of course, Spikes fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets at SpikesFest. Whether you’re looking for single-game tickets, flex books or season tickets, the opportunity will be there to lock up your seats. Fans can also get more information on the 2018 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, which is being held at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Aug. 14.

The Spikes’ home opener is set for Saturday, June 16.
