Food Trucks Bring a New Kind of Flavor to Happy Valley
Food trucks are hardly a new concept. They’ve always been common fixtures in big cities like New York and L.A., serving your typical “street foods” like hot dogs and tacos. But with their resurgence in recent years, food trucks have become just as popular in suburban areas, and their menus have gotten a whole lot more creative.
Happy Valley has been lucky enough to benefit from both of these things, with three amazing food trucks now serving our streets with just about every kind of food you could want.
Food for Thought is a true melting pot of flavors, bringing the best of the world’s street foods right to State College. You’ll find a little bit of everything here, and none of it disappoints. Try an international item, like Korean Pulled Pork with kimchi slaw, or a Curry Chicken Salad Wrap with curry aioli. Or go for a kicked-up American classic, like the Buffalo Chicken Sub or my own personal favorite, the Smoked Gouda Mac-n-Cheese Bowl. Food for Thought also incorporates new specials each week, and even offers the crazy-good S’more Sandwich and French Toast Sticks with Cayenne-maple syrup as sweet options.
You can find Food for Thought at several locations throughout Happy Valley, including Innovation Park, Beaver Ave., and the Lemont Farmers Market. Check their Facebook for daily updates on the truck’s location and specials.
Street Meat, based out of Bellefonte, cooks up hearty meals using grass-fed, pasture-raised meats, along with an array of other comfort foods. With gourmet, juicy Angus burgers topped with everything from mac and cheese to slow roasted beef, this food truck doesn’t joke around. Their handcut French fries or mac and cheese make the perfect sides, or you can top off your meal with a milkshake or homemade pie. Both breakfast and lunch are served all day, so you can grab one of their Pastured Pork Sausage, Egg and Cheese sandwiches any time you like.
Street Meat recently launched a second truck strictly for soup, subs, wraps, and made-to-order salads—vegetarians are welcome at this one! Follow them on Facebook to see where and when they’re serving each day.
World’s Fare Catering is a hub of global flavors of virtually all kinds, scratch-made to perfection. Owner Michael Marx has a diverse culinary background that includes strong Mexican roots, training in Paris, Asian cooking experience, and three restaurants under his belt. He calls on a little bit of all of those experiences to serve up comfort cuisine from all over the world. With different items on the menu each week, you can always expect something totally fresh and exciting. Polish pierogi, Greek gyros, Mexican taquitos, Thai soup, St. Louis smoked ribs… Only at World’s Fare can you find all of these in one place.
The World’s Fare truck is a regular at several locations in the West College Ave. area, including Minitab, API Technologies, and the PSU Technology Support Building. Follow them on Facebook for each week’s menu and locations.
