10 Things To Do On Your Happy Valley Getaway

Why go to a beach town or a resort when you can put together your own Happy Valley vacation? Here are ten things to do on your Happy Valley getaway!

1) Happy Valley History

Simply put: the area surrounding Happy Valley is a historical area. It is steeped in history from the 1800s to now and there is so much to unearth, as well as cultural landmarks to explore. From Penn State campus to historical Bellefonte, there are many tours and options available to those with a thirst for knowledge. Not exactly thrilling, but there is so much to offer through exploration.

2) Tussey Mountain

Adventures on Tussey Mountain can last all day. There is always something going on at Tussey Mountain. In the winter, there is skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and other winter options, while in the spring, summer, and fall, there is go-carting, golfing, batting cages, and fishing. Many options for parties and rental spaces, as well as special events on the mountain. Oh, and there’s zip lining, a new addition to Tussey! Want to see more? Check it out.

3) Clubbing and Barhopping

There is an undeniably intense nightlife scene in downtown State College – and it’s expanding to include other parts of Happy Valley. New editions include Local Whiskey, Happy Valley Brew Company, Big Spring Distillery (Bellefonte), Home Delivery Pizza Pub and Robin Hood Brewing Company, and Chrome. If you’re up to it, there are so many different destinations to get drinks and dance the night away. Ready to plan your bar tour? Go ahead and plan your bar hopping strategy here.

4) What-A-Blast! Laser Tag

This is a hidden gem of downtown State College. What-A-Blast! Laser Tag features 2400 sq. feet of laser tag fun! If you’re looking for some high intensity fun, close quarters exercise, and friendly competition, this is your place. This is also perfect for large groups and parties. Get your laser tag on here.

5) See a show!

Happy Valley truly has some great entertainment coming through the area. Recent acts to add Happy Valley to their schedule are Cher, Billy Joel, Tafelmusik Orchestra, Mamma Mia!, and many, many more! State College is never in short supply for acts! Check out acts coming into town here.

6) State Park and Nature Tours

Maybe the downtown scene isn’t your thing. A short drive to either Bald Eagle State Park or Black Moshannon State Park can yield beautiful wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and stunning nature exploration deep in the Pennsylvania woods. Sometimes, to truly appreciate what you have around you, you have to go deep in the woods and take a deep breath and feel small. Romantic and uninhibited, there are many options to take nature in, 100%.

7) 2000 Degrees Pottery Studio

A little off the beaten path in downtown State College is 2000 Degrees Pottery Studio. No worries, though; all of the ceramics have already been created! All you have to do is pick a piece and glaze it. Another good selection for large groups or parties that are looking for something interesting and unusual, even, to do, it provides fun and creativity for everyone, young and old! Check it out here.

8) Golf Courses

A big selling point for most vacation destinations is how many golf courses they have. Instead of driving all the way down south for a golf course, why not try in Happy Valley? Toftrees Golf Course, the Blue and White Courses, as well as several other golf courses in the surrounding areas offer fun and challenging links for even the most seasoned golf veteran. A short list of options are right here.

9) Spelunking!

Okay, so I’m half kidding here. There are a serious amount of caves in the area, including Penns Cave, Indian Caverns, and more. Check those out for boat tours and exploration of some of the places that lurk beneath rock and land.

10) See a Penn State sports event!

This is kind of a no-brainer. If you’re coming to Happy Valley for the first time, or returning for the umpteenth time, there is no doubt that you should go to a Penn State sports event. Basketball, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Soccer…Penn State sports are spectacular to watch! And if you’re close enough to Penn State, in a quiet area, you may still be able to hear a yell from an arena, baseball field, or football field that says, “WE ARE…PENN STATE!”

Plan your visit to Happy Valley today to check out the best that we have to offer! Or plan your return to Happy Valley to remember what makes Happy Valley, happy!
