Wedding season is fast approaching, and ordering a custom cake may take more work than you think. There are flavors and designs to choose, and getting the custom cake you want often requires ordering months ahead. Happy Valley has some incredible cake shops ready to design your perfect cake!

Kaitie Rose Specialty Cakes

State College

Kaitie Rose is owned and operated by Kaitie Hedberg, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. These specialty cakes are proudly made with local ingredients purchased from Harner Farm, Tait Farm Foods and Meyer Dairy. Each season brings an array of flavors to choose from, but Kaitie will work to make the cake you dream of. You can also discuss custom design options. Dolce Vita is a quaint, little bakery owned and operated by Mary     Hilliard. Just about a five-minute drive from downtown State         College, this bakery specializes in beautiful, custom cakes. A unique  variety of flavors, as well as gluten free and vegan options, are  available. Consultations and tastings are free.

Multiple cake, icing and filling flavors are available, and they’re happy to work with you on designing your cake! Bring a photo in of what you’re interested in or look through their many sample photos to get some ideas. Delivery is available to most of central Pa.

Buttercream cakes start at $2.25 per serving, and cake made with fondant start at $3.00 per serving.

Serendipity’s Cakes of     Distinction

Serendipity’s Cakes is a great choice for those with food allergens. Their shop is kept free of common allergens, like tree nuts, peanuts, soy, gluten and wheat, and they’re willing to work around your dietary needs. They strive to use as many organic, fair-trade and local ingredients as possible.

Owner Carrie Williams majored in Baking and Pastry Arts at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. At Serendipity’s Cakes, you can choose from a large variety of flavors and fillings and even a soak to give your cake extra flavor and moisture. You can also choose between fondant (a thick paste used to decorate and sculpt cakes) and icing. Though many people are not fans of fondant, this shop boasts an unparalleled fondant with “a delicate flavor that goes well with any cake.”

Custom cake prices start at $3 a slice for a basic white cake.
