State College Will Try for Guinness World Record This Weekend
Do you know about the Guinness World Record attempt happening downtown this weekend? If not, you should—because you can still be a part of it!
Light Up State College will take place Saturday, February 4, in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest ice lantern display ever, with more than 3,000 ice luminaries.
An ice luminary, if you've never heard of one, is a small, cup-shaped mold of ice that holds a light inside of it. The residents of Vuollerim, Sweden—who have been making these lanterns for their winter market for years—currently hold the world record of 2,651 ice luminaries, set in 2013.
The organizers of Light Up State College want to beat that… but they need your help!
In order to achieve the record, Light Up State College needs volunteers to make luminaries. All you need to do is sign up for the number you want to make, pick up that number of free kits, follow the easy instructions to make them, and bring them to the event Saturday to earn your very own spot in Guinness history.
Visit www.lightupstatecollege.com for complete details on the event and how to participate.
The record-breaking moment will take place at 6 p.m. on Allen Street. We better see you there!
