The 5 Best Coffee and Tea Spots In State College

Say goodbye to the days of Dunkin' or Starbucks as your go-to supplier. Happy Valley has coffee and tea joints so good and so unique that you may never want to go anywhere else again.

With so many options, it's hard to decide on just one. So here are our favorites (in no particular order)...

Rothrock Coffee

Rothrock opened in 2015 and has gotten insanely rave reviews ever since. It’s the kind of high quality, chic-meets-cozy coffee shop you can usually only find in a metropolitan area, with truly outstanding coffee and a loveable staff. And its out-of-downtown location with free parking makes it even better.

We suggest: A mocha, espresso or cappuccino… actually, anything!

Webster's Bookstore Café

There’s a reason Webster’s is such a local favorite. Their selection is out of this world, with all of their coffee drinks made from fair-trade organic coffee, over 90 (yes, you heard that right) different teas, hot cider, Italian soda, and more. Even better, they use Meyer Dairy milk.

We suggest: The “Brown Cow,” a latte made with Meyer Dairy chocolate milk

The Cheese Shoppe

The Cheese Shoppe is known for being State College’s best kept coffee secret of 35 years. With cheese in the name, outsiders would need to do a double take, but locals know that owner Bill Clarke brews the best coffee around. Bill keeps it old-fashioned, watching over his roasts and chatting with regulars as customers pour their own cups and throw their change on the counter. It’s a refreshingly simple coffee stop that you’ll fall in love with (that does, by the way, also sell cheese).

We suggest: A good old cup of coffee

Café Lemont

Café Lemont is the place to go for the best combo of comfort food and a hot drink. They have tons of scratch-made items, including chicken and egg salad sandwiches, hummus, scones, espresso brownies, loaded oatmeal bars, and so much more. Paired with a hot coffee or tea, you couldn’t ask for more.

We suggest: A flavored latte and the Quiche of the Day

Barranquero Café

One of the newest coffee spots in town, Barranquero has already become a favorite. It’s an authentic Colombian coffee shop that also serves fantastic Colombian finger foods like empanadas and arepas.

We suggest: The pour-over coffee and empanadas
